Fashion Design I
Fashion Design I in 2 Parts
This 2-part course is highly recommended for serious students and new comers to fashion design. Both parts are necessary for those planning to continue studying fashion design at more advanced levels.
- Part 1: Figure Drawing I (18 hours)
- This course is taught differently from other schools because it involves brief anatomy, basics of proportions and balance, weight, “plumbline,” angling of the body, and foreshortening -- vital to Fashion Illustration and Fashion Design. Students will also be taught “gesture sketching” which is not taught in most institutes in Thailand. This will also help in Drafting and relates to how the body moves through space. Many students hate drawing hands and many portfolio sketches lack proportion and proper body poses, thereby not giving the portfolio illustrations believable validity. In this course, students will learn the skills and knowledge needed to create proper and believable drawings.
- Part 2: Fashion Through the Times (18 hours)
- History is always seen as boring, but this course relates to Modern day trends from Lesson 1. Students will be reminded that today’s fashion is always a rehashing in new and wonderful combinations of yesterday’s styles and trends. This is an important pre-requisite to Trends, Portfolio, and Coordination classes later on. Without a dull moment in class, students will get to know Ancient History of Fashion and briefly on Artists and Art Movements of each era seen through “extracts” from movies that best reflect the lifestyle and aesthetics giving rise to the fashion of those specific times. In addition to discovering a new and exciting way to study fashion and be able to trace back in time to the origins of today’s clothes, students will also get to create their own Research Book to relate “new” and “old” for their own keepsake.
